HKUST Li & Fung Supply Chain Institute gathers experts to rethink the future supply chains in the new era

9 December, 2025 – Today, the Global Supply Chain Business Summit 2025 was held in Hong Kong by the HKUST Li & Fung Supply Chain Institute (Institute). The event, supported by InvestHK of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, was attended by about 200 participants from the government, business and academic sectors.

Dr. William FUNG, Chairman of the Institute’s Advisory Board, said, “In the face of today’s geopolitical challenges and rapid technological shifts, we must confront the realities of global supply chains. As we navigate this new era, we need to rethink how we design the supply chains of the future, adapting to a world that is no longer flat. There is an exodus of Chinese manufacturers, and Chinese manufacturing will not only survive but thrive, establishing roots in overseas markets and creating a resilient ecosystem for global supply chains. Ultimately, it is not just about navigating supply chains; it is about educating and empowering the next generation of leaders to succeed in a complex world. This is also our vision for the HKUST Li & Fung Supply Chain Institute.”

In his officiating address, Mr. Algernon Yau, Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region said, "Under the ‘one country, two systems’ principle, Hong Kong enjoys the best of both worlds: convenient and sometimes priority access to the Mainland’s vast market, and seamless connectivity with the rest of the world. Hong Kong is well-positioned to become a hub in the reconfiguration of global supply chains, especially as Chinese enterprises expand into Southeast Asia, the Middle East and the Global South. We provide comprehensive financial, legal, advisory, logistics, and strategic support services. And this year, we are going further. We have established a GoGlobal Task Force, bringing together government departments and agencies like the Hong Kong Monetary Authority as well as relevant non-governmental organizations to be more coordinated in attracting and assisting Mainland enterprises to expand internationally through Hong Kong.
