New Retail in Action Issue 17: Carrefour Le Marché – The first smart store of Carrefour
Carrefour's Le Marché in Shanghai is a "Go Smart, Go Small" concept store that leverages Tencent's technologies like facial recognition payment and "Scan and Go" mini-programs. At 4,000 sqm, it is half the size of traditional hypermarkets and focuses heavily on imported food, private labels, and on-site catering. The store provides a comfortable shopping environment with wider aisles and 3-km rapid delivery. This move represents Carrefour's effort to adapt to the New Retail landscape by providing a more specialized and digitalized grocery experience.
